Mid season friendly

Reserves run out a useful excercise
A mix of 1st team, reserves and u23 players represented Welling Town v Long Lane
With the 1st team and Reserves having a free weekend it gave the younger players a chance to play on the 1st team pitch at Bayliss Avenue
In very windy conditions Welling were on the front foot and creating chances in the early stages
After 15 minutes Long Lane were awarded a penalty as their striker and a Welling town defender collided when jumping for the same ball.
The penalty was dispatched and the visitors took the lead 0-1
The match was fairly even after that with both sides creating chances.
Luke Bewick equalised for Welling late in the 1st half with a stunning striker from the edge of the 18 yard box. 1-1
Welling made 6 changes at half time and the second half was a more even affair
Long lane made it 2-1 with a counter attack goal before being awarded their 2nd penalty of the game.
This time 18 year old keeper Callum Griggs saved the spot kick and the rebounded shot.
Welling continued to press without that clinical finish
In the closing minutes long lane scored their 3rd goal.
From a managers point of view it was a good exercise on what would have been a game free weekend.
