Boots edge out Russellers in Cup Semi Final
Elizabeth Jacques Cup Semi Final 6th April 2019 - Welling Town A v Russellers FC
Welling Town A had previously met Russellers twice in the league this season losing 3-0 away
and then 3-4 at home, so manager Michael Puszyk knew he had a real stern test ahead of him if he was to make our cup final dreams a reality.
Welling started the first half very brightly keeping the ball well and creating some early chances.
Hussein Osman, Jacob Smale and Taylan Ali-Osman controlling the midfield effectively for the Boots
15 minutes in welling were awarded a penalty, Hussein Osman struck the ball well beating the
keeper only to see the effort crash off the cross bar 0-0.
Divine Ogar and Lewis Armstrong pressed well down each flank providing a constant threat
and good service to the ever lively Harry Main.
Despite several great opportunities including striking the cross bar twice more and the post Welling
somehow came in at half time 0-0.
The second half started as the first half finished and within two minutes of the restart Divine
struck a great shot from the edge of the box, their keeper again beaten but the post rescuing
Russellers yet again.
With just five minutes left on the clock Divine made a supporting run into the box his positioning
was excellent meeting a deflected shot at the back post to calmly slot into the net 1-0.
With 8 minutes of injury time played our young team held their nerve, with our back line of
Joe Armstrong, Albert Sadiku, Harvey Bance and Hadley Barton being well marshalled by the
ever dependable Callum Griggs in goal.
